Schools in South Korea are highly competitive and have a rigorous educational system. Korean schools are divided into three main categories: elementary, middle, and high school. Elementary school spans six years, from first to sixth grade, and is compulsory for all children. High school is three years, from tenth to twelfth grade, and is the final stage of secondary education in South Korea.
